Backports
Works today (measured 2026-10-12). x0ne-base ships the trixie-backports source at priority 100; nothing comes from it unless asked. No per-package pin ships yet.
Some AI packages are newer in trixie-backports. x0ne OS enables backports and pins packages from it one at a time.
The rule
- trixie-backports is enabled at Debian's default priority. Nothing is taken from it unless asked.
- A metapackage that needs a backport pins that one package, in
/etc/apt/preferences.d/. - Every pin is listed in Metapackages reference, with the reason.
Security support
Debian's security team does not cover backports. Updates come on a best-effort basis (Debian, backports.debian.org). The x0ne maintainer agent will watch each pinned package.
Example: ggml
ggml 0.25.3 is in trixie-backports, not in trixie. llama.cpp is in neither: only in Debian testing and unstable (checked 2026-10-09).
Steps
On x0ne OS, x0ne-base already ships the source, in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-backports.sources. On a plain Debian, enable it the Debian way:
$ echo "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian trixie-backports main" \ | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/trixie-backports.list $ sudo apt update
Today x0ne-ai-local only recommends ggml. With backports enabled, this pulls it:
$ sudo apt install --install-recommends x0ne-ai-localHow to verify
$ apt-cache policy libggml0The trixie-backports line has priority 100. The installed version ends in ~bpo13.
How to undo
Remove the packages first, then the source:
$ sudo apt purge libggml0 $ sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/trixie-backports.list $ sudo apt update
