Install on an existing Debian
Works today (measured 2026-10-09). Against a local test copy of the repository, signed with a test key. The public repository is next on the roadmap.
Already on Debian 13? Add the x0ne repository and install only the metapackages you need.
Prerequisites
- Debian 13 (trixie), amd64 or arm64.
- An account with
sudo.
Steps
Debian 13, amd64 or arm64
# 1. Install the archive key $ sudo apt install ./x0ne-archive-keyring.deb # 2. Add the repository $ echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/x0ne-archive-keyring.gpg] \ https://x0ne.co/x0ne-os/download/apt x0ne-trixie main" \ | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/x0ne.list # 3. Install what you need $ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install x0ne-base x0ne-ai-local
The download URL answers once the repository opens. The key file is not published yet.
What changes on your system
/usr/lib/os-releasenames x0ne OS. The Debian file is kept throughdpkg-divert.- The text banner and a login message, in
/etc/issue.d,/etc/update-motd.dand/etc/profile.d. - The trixie-backports source, at priority 100. See Backports.
sudo, for the first boot account.APT::Install-Recommends "false": recommended packages become opt-in.
The x0ne repository has priority 100, like Debian backports. It never replaces a Debian package with its own version.
Expected output
check
$ grep -E '^(NAME|ID|ID_LIKE)=' /etc/os-release NAME="x0ne OS" ID=x0ne ID_LIKE=debian
How to verify
Measured on 2026-10-09: apt update is clean, and apt refuses a rogue key, a tampered index, a tampered package and an expired Release file.
check
$ apt-cache policy x0ne-base $ dpkg -V base-files
dpkg -V base-files prints nothing: the Debian package stays intact.
How to undo
remove x0ne OS
$ sudo apt purge x0ne-base x0ne-ai-local $ sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/x0ne.list $ sudo apt purge x0ne-archive-keyring $ sudo apt update
Purging x0ne-base puts the Debian os-release back. This was tested on 2026-10-09.
